Banjul – On 15 March, the West Africa Regional Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights jointly organizes with the Ministry of Justice of The Gambia a dissemination event around the recommendations that have been made to The Gambia by UN organs in 2014 and 2015 on a variety of human rights issues.

Since December 2014, the human rights situation in The Gambia has been reviewed by the United Nations on several occasions by the UN Human Rights Council as well as by independent experts on the rights of the child, discrimination against women and economic, social and cultural rights of all, especially the most vulnerable.

The West Africa Regional Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has been actively supporting the Government’s engagement as well as the civil society in ensuring that human rights are enjoyed by all at all times. With the support of the West Africa Regional Office, the Government is now making a step forward in the dissemination of the human rights recommendations formulated to the Gambia in 2014 and 2015. By so doing, all Gambians will have the possibility to know what human rights recommendations have been issued to the Government.

The event will be also an opportunity to reach out to all stakeholders who will be able to assist the Government of The Gambia in the implementation of the recommendations.

Participants to the event will be civil servants from the relevant ministries and Government institutions dealing with human rights issues as well as civil society actors, UN agencies and Embassies in The Gambia.
