VISITS TO DETENTION CENTRES

In Senegal, accompanying the National Observatory of Places of Detention (ONLPL) during its official visits in detention centres enabled better assessment of the condition of detained individuals. These visits have provided the opportunity to meet certain prisoners individually and in private and for them to be able to share their concerns in complete confidentiality. OHCHR/BRAO, in partnership with the Association of Female Jurists (AJS), has also given free legal consultations in several women’s prisons.

WOMEN’S RIGHTS

OHCHR/BRAO has helped put in place women’s coalitions in Senegal and Mali to better represent and defend their rights during election periods.

The same experience was proposed by the Office in other countries which held elections, like Guinea-Conakry where a coalition of women was also established
